Penguin Example Case #8

It has been a little more than a year since our domain got slammed by Google Penguin. During this entire time, literally have devoted time to fixing this for more than a year, we still haven't had much success in getting rid of this penalty.

To highlight, we hounded webmasters and domain owners to get bad links removed and unlike a lot of others I've read about, we were able to get the vast majority of these links removed. All actions taken were documented in a spreadsheet and submitted to Google, first in a doc to the Disavow tool (for the links we couldn't remove) and the in a reconsideration request, which I guess we were lucky enough to get to use before Google seemed to limit that to sites with a manual penalty?

Needless to say, we are no better off, now more than a year later, than when we started. We haven't done any link building at all during this time so it's not like we continued to add to the problem on one end while trying to fix it on the other.

I'm wondering if this could be the problem; not doing any link building over the last year while trying to clean up the other link mess? Am I getting warm? How PBG Would Handle This Problem
