Manual Spam Action Example Case #6

I've been asked to take a look at a website that was hit by the May 9, 2013 "phantom" update. The first thing I saw when I checked their Google Webmaster Tools was an unread message from the end of June indicating that there was a pattern of unnatural links resulting in a manual spam action. Not surprised because their back link profile was one of the worst I've seen. Oddly enough, when I clicked Search Traffic, Manual Actions, the message there reads "No manual webspam actions found." Not sure what to make of this because it obviously doesn't make sense.

I have a good deal of experience working on sites with these penalties and the Manual Actions page is always helpful.
